About Pam Glover
I really love to laugh and have fun; I believe that laughing until your belly hurts can be the best antidote to almost anything. Luckily, my family, including my dog, make me laugh and keep me goofy. I also enjoy creativity and love to incorporate art and art expressions into counselling when this can be helpful. I’ve always played sports, and most of my sporting experience has been as part of a team, so I am very familiar with working with other people towards a common goal (let’s be honest, usually trying to win whatever the sport is).
I love my work and the privilege of getting to know and understand myself and others in this process; witnessing people in their most difficult, vulnerable and triumphant moments has helped me to connect to my own vulnerabilities and the courage and bravery needed to do the work of therapy. I am proud of the work that I do and proud that most clients tell me I am unlike other therapists; they describe me as a real person that cares a lot about the people I work with.
Most of my career has focused on working with children, adolescents, young adults and their parents. The most frequent reason young people and/or their parents have requested counselling since I began my private practice in 2013 is because of difficulties with stress, anxiety, mood/depression and traumatic experiences. Of course, it’s not just young people struggling with these issues, adults/parents are too. I believe my role is to provide the treatment that best meets the needs of those seeking therapy with specific strategies aimed at decreasing stress, anxiety, depression and the effects of trauma so that people can enjoy life while reducing future risks.
I have a Graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Calgary with a specialization in Clinical Social Work (Counselling). I have provided psychotherapy with a wide range of individuals, families and groups for over 20 years. I’ve worked with people at the beginning of their struggle providing support and expertise to ensure problems stay manageable, and with individuals and families struggling with intense difficulties including concerns related to anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and self-harm. I have also facilitated a variety of therapy groups including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy Groups, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Girl’s Leadership Groups.
I have a specialization in trauma-focused treatment and I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a specialized treatment approach for individuals of all ages struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression and other overwhelming life events.
